The Open Road Continues

AP+I Design was tasked with renovating a historic building in Pittsburgh’s Strip District to serve as our client’s East Coast headquarters, blending elements from the Silicon Valley flagship office with the rich industrial heritage of Pittsburgh.

An Industrial Edge The building’s original features—brick walls, high ceilings, exposed wood, and warehouse windows—celebrate Pittsburgh’s heritage. The design team preserved these elements with a neutral palette and used metal wayfinding and signage in dark charcoal to unify the space.

Bridging the Gap The design team returned to the idea of the open road, pulling parts from the Silicon Valley flagship office and creating a continuing narrative. Yellow light fixtures echo Pittsburgh’s iconic bridges, and the bridge motif extends through privacy films and signage, symbolizing connections within the workspace.

The Showroom An adjacent garage was converted into a showroom and event space, featuring elements from both flagship offices. A vibrant mural by a local artist celebrates Pittsburgh, bringing energy and color to the space.
